KHON KAEN, THAILAND – August 27, 2025 – The Faculty of Technology at Khon Kaen University has joined a significant regional initiative to assess the environmental implications of hydropower development along the Mekong River mainstream, demonstrating the university’s commitment to addressing critical transboundary water resource challenges.

National Water Resources Office Hosts Expert Consultation Forum

The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) organized the first stakeholder consultation forum under the “Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment Study of Mainstream Mekong Hydropower Projects 2025” program. The forum brought together leading experts from multiple institutions to advance academic coordination and policy development at both national and regional levels.

Dr. Winai Wangpimool, Director of the International Affairs Division at NWRO, led the initiative alongside Associate Professor Dr. Ratchanee Naammat from Mahasarakham University, who serves as the project manager for this collaborative research effort.

KKU Technology Faculty’s Strategic Contribution

Dr. Nudthawud Homtong, from the Geotechnology Program at the Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, participated as Assistant Expert in Hydrology and Hydraulics. His expertise proved instrumental in supporting comprehensive academic analysis and developing hydrological data frameworks related to environmental changes in the Mekong Basin resulting from hydropower project impacts.
