Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, proudly announces the successful completion of the KKU-YU Student Exchange Program 2026, themed “Northeast Thailand Cultural Exchange, Industry, and Innovation Study Program.” The program ran from 16 February to 20 March 2026, bringing together students and faculty from Yamaguchi University (YU), Japan, and Khon Kaen University in a month-long immersive cultural, academic, and innovation experience.

Program Overview

The KKU-YU Student Exchange Program was jointly organized by the Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, and Yamaguchi University. The program aimed to foster deep cross-cultural understanding, promote academic collaboration, develop international communication skills, and strengthen the long-standing partnership between the two institutions. A total of 12 students from Yamaguchi University participated in the program, fully supported by 7 to 12 dedicated student buddies from the Faculty of Technology, KKU, who guided, accompanied, and cared for their Japanese counterparts throughout the entire program.

Goals and Objectives

  • To promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Thai and Japanese students
  • To enhance academic learning through hands-on experiences
  • To develop English language communication skills and cross-cultural competencies
  • To strengthen the international partnership between Khon Kaen University and Yamaguchi University
  • To inspire students to pursue international education and study abroad opportunities

Program Activities

The program featured a rich and diverse range of activities designed to offer participants an authentic and comprehensive experience of Northeast Thailand’s culture, nature, and academic environment.

Cultural and Nature Excursions:

  • The Way of Si Chomphu Life at Rai Phatrawarin Cafe & Camp — including mountain hiking, nature art with colored stones, and a tractor ride to Hinpun mountain viewpoint
  • Visit to Phuphan Kham Buddha Footprint Temple, Ubolratana District — a spiritual and historical landmark in Khon Kaen Province
  • Exploration of the Regional Observatory for the Public
  • Visit to Khon Kaen Zoo

Academic and Institutional Visits:

  • Visit to the Thai Treasury Museum — offering insights into Thailand’s national heritage and financial history
  • Visit Khon Kaen Brewery Company Limited
  • Visit Mitr Phuvieng Sugar Co., Ltd
  • Traditional E-san Musical Instrument & Traditional Thai dance class learning session at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, KKU

Concluding Presentation:

The program concluded with a formal learning outcome presentation held on Thursday, 19 March 2026, at Seminar Room 2, 2nd Floor, TE06 Building, Faculty of Technology, KKU. Students presented in pairs, sharing their exchange experiences and learning reflections as requested by Yamaguchi University. The presentations were evaluated by Associated Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Affiars, Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, in fulfillment of the academic requirements of the exchange program.

Outcomes and Impact

The program yielded meaningful and lasting outcomes for all participants. Students from both institutions were immersed in each other’s cultural contexts, fostering genuine friendships and broadening their global perspectives. Key outcomes include:

  • Strengthened international partnership between Yamaguchi University and Khon Kaen University
  • Enhanced English communication skills and cross-cultural competencies among participating students
  • Increased awareness and inspiration for Thai students considering studying abroad, particularly in Japan
  • Successful exchange of cultural knowledge, traditions, and values between Thai and Japanese participants
  • Positive learning outcomes demonstrated through the concluding presentation evaluated by Yamaguchi University

The KKU-YU Student Exchange Program 2026 stands as a testament to the power of international collaboration in education. The Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, looks forward to continuing and deepening this valued partnership with Yamaguchi University in the years to come.
